VILLARES S.A.
In 1934, Francisco E. Villares created the first natural food products company in South America. In a few years, this new venture turned into a prestigious business where the residents of the Federal Capital did their Christmas and New Year shopping.
In the 60’s, the son, Francisco A. Villares, joined the company during an era of clear expansion and progress, and provided services to stores, restaurants, supermarkets and industries all over the nation and bordering countries.
The company continued to grow, and in the 90’s with the arrival of the third generation of the Villares family, it was reorganized into two major divisions: New Garden, a chain of retail stores, and Villares S.A., the corporate wholesale division. In 2008, a new plant was inaugurated in Tortuguitas, Malvinas Argentinas District, in the province of Buenos Aires.
Today, VILLARES S.A. has the mission to “provide the most varied supply of high quality products for those who want to add nutritious alternatives to their diets, offer their families healthy options, or simply complement their meals with a variety of healthy food”. It is the main chain of stores offering whole grain, natural, functional, and organic foods in Buenos Aires. It comprises 11 retail stores, a distribution and logistics plant, and has recently opened their first franchise.
Case Analysis
In 1999, the company experienced a growing process which gave rise to two business units. Facing this new challenge, VILLARES S.A. felt the need to improve its management system and find a more effective and customized solution to cover the expansion process.
Solution / Implementation
At the beginning, the solution was implemented in the traditional way, which required all the information to be downloaded at headquarters to reconcile all daily transactions. The company's staff members and NeuralSoft carried out an excellent job of quickly and efficiently including what they had learned from experience during the implementation process. In 2005, the company migrated to the ASP model achieving outstanding results.
Benefits
The implementation of the ASP method helped VILLARES S.A. unify the information in all its branches, speed up clerical and financial processes, and efficiently monitor the inventory. The ASP allowed the company to continue growing steadily without interruptions or loss of information.
Among the parameters used by VILLARES was a weight embedded barcode reader, a major operating application which helped reduce error margins in the weight/price relationship, improve the payment process, and resolve inflation related issues.
Currently, the company has integrated the information of 11 points of sale, and the production, logistics and distribution center. In addition, the company’s first franchise has already implemented the NeuralSoft management solution.
